A lot of my designs are inspired by the beautiful Kent countryside I have been privileged enough to be brought up in.
Full of woodland and rural animals, bluebell woods and rapeseed fields; all of these places are a huge source of inspiration for me.
Before any design is cut it starts as a series of working sketches before a final design is chosen. I will then work it into a Papercut, making sure everything fits together and none of the design "drops out". Finally I will hand cut it to make sure everything works and if anything needs tweaking.
I love applying my designs onto other products too, using a variety of printing methods such as screen printing (which translates from paper cutting so well)
Another huge source of inspiration to my work is the coast. I studied illustration at the University of Brighton which is by the seaside and would regularly take a lunch break just sitting on the pebbles, listening to the sea.
I also visit Salcombe in Devon every year where I spend time on boats, doing coastal walks and lazy days on the beach. I think theres something very nostalgic about the seaside for a lot of people but Salcombe appeals to me due to the lovely pace of life there. Bliss!
Add a touch of nautical design to your home with a "Beside the Seaside" pack of coasters, or one of my screen printed tea towels.
